Philadelphia, August 29, 2025 — Kyle Schwarber delivered one of the greatest offensive performances in Phillies history, crushing four home runs and collecting a career-best nine RBIs as Philadelphia demolished the Atlanta Braves 19–4 on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park.
The slugger, who now leads the National League with 49 homers, became only the 21st player in MLB history to hit four in a single game. His final long ball came in the seventh inning off reliever Wander Suero, a three-run shot that also set a new Phillies RBI record for one game.
Schwarber’s memorable night unfolded as follows:
In the eighth inning, he nearly made history with a fifth homer but flied out to shallow left against infielder Vidal Bruján, who was called on to pitch in the lopsided contest.
“It was just a fun night, a good way to bounce back after the Mets series,” Schwarber said postgame, smiling as he admitted he had been joking earlier about how many players had ever hit five in a game.
The Phillies launched seven homers total, matching a club record, and rebounded strongly after being swept in New York earlier this week.
Schwarber now joins franchise greats Mike Schmidt (1976), Chuck Klein (1936), and Ed Delahanty (1896) as the only Phillies with four-homer games. Just last month, Oakland’s Nick Kurtz became the first rookie in MLB history to accomplish the feat.
At 32 years old, Schwarber is enjoying perhaps his finest season, hitting .248 with 119 RBIs and a .956 OPS — all career bests. He also captured All-Star Game MVP honors in July after a dramatic swing-off performance.
The emphatic win tightened Philadelphia’s grip on the NL East crown, while the Braves’ struggles continued in a tough campaign.
