Pakistani cricketer Asif Ali has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career that spanned five years across ODIs and T20Is.
The 34-year-old right-hander shared the news on his Instagram account, describing the experience of representing Pakistan as the “proudest chapter” of his life.
“Wearing the Pakistan jersey has been the greatest honour of my life. Serving my country on the cricket field has been my proudest chapter,” Asif wrote in his farewell note.
Expressing gratitude to his fans, teammates, and coaches, he also recalled the personal hardships he faced during his journey, including the loss of his daughter during the World Cup.
Asif Ali made his international debut in 2018 and went on to represent Pakistan in 58 T20 Internationals and 21 One-Day Internationals. Over the course of his career, he scored 959 runs, including three centuries across both formats.
The aggressive middle-order batter was part of Pakistan’s squad in the 2021 and 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. He is especially remembered for his impactful innings against New Zealand and Afghanistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup, where he played a key role in Pakistan’s victories.
Asif last appeared for Pakistan in October 2023 against Bangladesh during the Asian Games.
