Liverpool Closing in on Parma Starlet Giovanni Leoni

Liverpool are on the verge of signing 18-year-old Italian defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma in a deal worth around £26 million. The highly-rated centre-back has been a standout for Italy’s Under-19s and previously played for Padova and Sampdoria before joining Parma last summer.
Leoni has been identified as a key target for new boss Arne Slot and is set to strengthen Liverpool’s defensive options. The Reds are also in talks with Crystal Palace over a potential move for England international Marc Guehi, though the clubs remain apart on valuation.
FA Cup winners Palace are seeking £40 million for their captain, who has just 12 months left on his deal, while Liverpool hope to pay less. Guehi’s decision may hinge on game time ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Liverpool have already spent around £270 million this summer, including failed bids such as the £110 million offer for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who remains keen on a move to Anfield.
Italian journalist Daniele Verri described Leoni as “strong in the air” and technically skilled, praising the bold move from Liverpool. While breaking into the starting XI may take time, the chance to train alongside stars like Virgil van Dijk is seen as a “huge opportunity” for the young defender.
