Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and India have no option but to live side by side, stressing that New Delhi must decide whether to continue with hostility or embrace cooperation as good neighbours.
Speaking to a large gathering of overseas Pakistanis in London on Saturday, the premier underlined that Pakistan seeks dialogue with India — but only on the basis of fairness and equality.
Sharif reminded the audience that the two countries have already fought four wars, wasting billions of dollars that could have been invested in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and improving the lives of ordinary citizens. “Without a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute, relations cannot move forward,” he stated firmly.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Kashmiris, declaring that the sacrifices and bloodshed of millions would never be forgotten.
Turning to global crises, Sharif condemned Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza, where over 64,000 Palestinians have lost their lives. He described the plight of Palestinians as inseparable from the broader international conscience and reiterated Pakistan’s voice for justice.
The prime minister also touched on Pakistan’s recent progress and efforts to improve its global standing. He said fairness and mutual respect must guide any talks with India, making it clear that Pakistan would not accept one-sided terms.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar later hailed the convention as a success, announcing that Sharif’s full speech would be broadcast soon. Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Aun Chaudhry said the massive turnout reflected the strong love expatriates hold for their homeland, adding that Pakistan’s achievements have boosted its international image.
During the session, other topics including Operation Banyan-e-Mursus, economic reforms, and Pakistan’s diplomatic relations were also highlighted.
