Imam-ul-Haq will play his final match for Yorkshire in Sunday’s One-Day Cup semi-final against Hampshire at Scarborough, as the left-handed batter prepares for a potential recall to Pakistan’s Test squad for the upcoming series against South Africa in October.
The 29-year-old, who joined Yorkshire in July as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad, has been in outstanding touch during his short stay in England. His consistency with the bat has been central to Yorkshire’s run in the 50-over competition, where they topped their group with seven wins from eight games.
Imam is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 583 runs at a stunning average of 97.16. His highlight came against Northamptonshire Steelbacks, where he smashed a career-best 159 from 130 deliveries, delighting Yorkshire supporters and underlining his international pedigree.
Although he was not part of the Pakistan squad for the recent series against the West Indies, his form in county cricket has put him back in contention. Selectors are expected to monitor him further in the upcoming Hanif Mohammad Trophy before making a final decision on his Test return.
Teammates at Yorkshire have spoken highly of Imam’s influence both on and off the field. James Wharton praised his experience, describing him as “brilliant to bat with” and “a rock star of a bloke,” adding that his presence in the dressing room has been invaluable.
Despite his early departure, Imam leaves a strong legacy from his short spell with the White Rose county. Fans and players alike will feel his absence if Yorkshire advance to the final, but his performances have already ensured a lasting impression.
